November Layout Update: Moving Forward Again!

So, I had a happy finding the other day. Two boxes that I had packed up when I was doing my layout revamp that had gone "missing" in plain sight. I found them and had masses of people, trucks, cars, and other details ready for me to add onto the layout. I was super happy.

I found the missing SOYOKAZE HARBOR box with tons of people, fish, and trucks. I added them directly to the layout and had a much more busy environment. Love it.

I also found my old monster I made out of clay and added that to the layout as well. The military figures were packed right there with it (good job, Malcolm!) so I made a little scene with them outside of Soyokaze.

Other little details followed, like deer!

It felt great to get back into the hobby again. After months of failed job searching and gloom, I managed to snap out of it long enough to get rolling again.

I'm done with all my trams. Modemo, Kato, Tomytec....they all let me down. They ran HORRIBLY and I just couldn't take it anymore. So...I came up with a new solution for now....

I dig how this normal train just pulls this passenger car. It's a good solution for now.


So, I hope to continue the progress being made at the moment. I hope that I get some good news on the job front shortly. Until then, I stay fired up on my three cities and make sure I get some fun in this holiday season.

A photo gallery progress report to show where things are at this point. It's a nice snapshot of a moment in time so I can look back a few months from now and see how much I've gotten done - if anything. :)

Kiwamura Residential - Urban Renewal in Full Swing!

So, I had a lot of mess left over from my previous build, so i used the wood shingle method and just went over the top of the mess with foam core! :) Problem solved. And, I won't be using that glue to put things down anymore. My new method is the use of caulk to lock things down. It comes up MUCH easier than Elmer's style white glue.

It's fun when a train rolls by on the hill above the town.

The bare hills were making me crazy, so I got to work on adding Woodland Scenics goodness into the mix. Ah...lovely foliage.

I gave this cool product a shot as well. A rubber sheet that has a brick pattern on it. The sticky back made application very easy. It's not super easy to cut, but a sharp blade goes through it relatively easily.

And another thing ticked off my list - a roadway that dips down under tracks.

I'm going to end up using some dulling spray or the like on the road I think. It's a bit shiny, though that will change over time. If I want to up the level of this area later, I'll be able to just remove the current panels, then lay in new ones as needed. But, we'll see how things go once I'm done with the scenic elements and road markings. The intersection area is going to take some heavy reference searching.

I'm happy with the progress. I'm starting to get back to a level where I can get into adding people, cars, and all the little scene elements I really enjoy! And, having the new track setup is adding way more train enjoyment into the mix as well. Good stuff.

And, a new addition to the fleet - Kato 10-1418 Series M250 Super Rail Cargo (New Design Container) Basic Set (Four Car) with another set to follow shortly. I want to get the add-on cars for this guy.

Soyokaze Temple Hill Scenery - round 01

A quick update. I started adding some scenery to the Soyokaze Temple Hill area. This area is primarily the temple pieces and scenery, so there was not a lot of moving around that had to be done.


Annnnnnnnd...I totally forgot about this post a month later! hehehe  So...I'm just going to post it as is. :)
